Sidney Cardew would welcome your company at an art exhibition of his paintings.
Largely a self taught artist, Sidney Cardew started painting in 1970 – developing a fascination for marine subjects on the backwaters and coastal inlets of Essex
He is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Wapping Group and exhibits throughout the country including the Mall Gallery London

Join us for evening of Coffee and conversation on Thursday 28 April. There will be a series of mini talks and demonstrations throughout the evening and we will reimagine the taste of coffee from 300 years ago. Don’t worry we will also brew some cutting edge and modern alternatives. Our resident expert barista will talk about the process of making coffee and where they went wrong in the eighteenth century. Other talks will look at the history of the coffee houses in London.
Tickets are £12 and, of course, include a cup of coffee and entry to the Hall.

Music from international classical and jazz guitarist Dominic Ashworth with guest pianist and soloist.
French-Canadian Dominic Ashworth studied guitar in Toronto and Spain before moving to England fulltime. He joined Digby Fairweather’s Half Dozen in 1998. He works with many jazz musicians including Julian Marc Stringle, he has his own acoustic trio and teaches at Trinity College of Music.
He will be joined by Jill Luff on Jazz vocals and other guests.

Immerse yourself in the life and times of Captain John Harle and discover the world of stormy seas and starry skies!
Friday 13 & Saturday 14 of May, 6pm-9pm (last entry at 8pm).
As part of Culture24 Museums at Night Festival, Rainham Hall will be opening its doors after hours for an evening of seafaring fun. How did the Captain navigate his ships through dangerous waters? What stars would have led his ships to their destinations? Where would he have learnt about pirates? What did he take with him on a long voyage? There will be performances from the Front of House Theatre Company and a chance to see the stars above Rainham Hall with the Havering Astronomical Society.

Come and join Discover History as they entertain on the regency period and the etiquette of how to take tea. This fascinating talk will look at how tea was becoming a fashionable and addictive drink as well as the development of tea into Britain’s favourite drink. It will look at how it was kept under lock and key within the higher members of Regency society and the intricacies of making a good brew – did you know we ruin it today by adding milk! It will also show how later on both high tea and afternoon tea became a fashionable way of life as well as the differences between the two. Never before had a lady been seen taking tea outside on the lawns! There are benefits of drinking tea for your health…… so long as you haven’t bought tea of the smuggled kind which may have a few nasty hidden extras included…..

London: A Bigger Picture is a major Film London project aiming to get Londoners enjoying the city’s archive film while building a wider picture of London life.
This event will see an expert from London’s Screen Archives showing films from your area, exploring their history and explaining how you can donate your home movies to preserve them for future generations. The show will start at 2.30pm with a chance for Q&A.

During 2016 guided walks will run on the 4th Friday of each month starting in March and will have the theme of ‘Discovering Thames Chase’. Each walk will start at 10.00 and last between 2-3 hours.
The walk will start from the visitor car park at 10:00am.
The short leisurely walk will take between 1.5 and 2 hours and will follow established paths which can be a bit slippery in wet weather.
