An evening of jazz and ballads made famous by women at Rainham Hall
Aug 2nd 2018 |
Rainham Hall |
Join us for a musical evening of songs from the 1940s and 1950s made famous by female singers, in celebration of our current exhibition and marking the centenary of women’s suffrage movement.
Local musicians, Jill Luff (vocals) and Dominic Ashworth (guitar) will perform a variety of songs made popular by female singers including Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Doris Day and many more. Inspired by our current exhibition, sit back and enjoy the sounds of the 1940s and 1950s in the Hayloft at Rainham Hall on Thurday 2 August 2018, 6pm-8pm.
Jill has studied with singing teachers since her early teens and sung in many different genres of music, including Classical, Jazz and Popular song. She is also part of the vocal trio The Hummingbirds, a close harmony vocal trio bringing to life the era of nostalgia to people through the music of the 1940s.
Accompanying Jill is Guitarist, Dominic Ashworth. Dominic studied guitar in Toronto and Spain before moving to England. He works with many jazz musicians including Julian Marc Stringle, has appeared at all the top jazz festivals and has his own acoustic trio ‘Without Words’. He teaches at Trinity College of Music and is a very sought after classical and jazz guitarist.
We are thrilled to present a musical evening of songs to celebrate women singers from near and far who had great hits and achieved recognition during the 1940s and 1950s. As I’m sure you know 2018 marks the 100th year since some women were given the right to vote in Britain and in those early years it was their voices that gave us the message.
Linking perfectly to our current exhibition about the 1940s and 1950s history of the Hall, when the building was used as a day nursery for local children, don't miss this very special musical evening.
Tickets: £10 per person. Please book online here.
